Guide to the Elk Trail

Author Ben Cramer provides insight on two two hiking trails that are near each other in "Pennsylvania Elk Country" in Elk and Cameron Counties. The Elk Trail is a 15.60 mi backpacking trail near the village of Benezette that has been routed to increase the hiker's chances of viewing wildlife, including elk. The Fred Woods Trail is a 4.53 mi loop trail near the village of Driftwood that visits a "rock city" boulder formation and two dramatic vistas over the deep gorge formed by the Bennett Branch of Sinnemahoning Creek.
