Crystal Pinafore Dress Sewing Pattern, I AM Patterns

Crystal is a modern reimagining of the classic pinafore dress, designed to be sewn in three versatile styles. It retains all the signature details that make this timeless piece so appealing, a relaxed fit, front and back bib, adjustable straps, a large compartmentalised chest pocket, buttoned side openings, two front slash pockets, and contrast topstitching for a crisp finish.

While the upper design stays true to the original, the skirt variations transform its look:

Long straight skirt: finished with two back patch pockets, a faux fly, and a back vent.
Short straight skirt: featuring two back patch pockets and a faux fly.
Long flared skirt: with a delicate layer of tulle that adds lightness, movement, and a touch of modern charm.

Important to Know: I AM Patterns are designed to be traced off. The different pieces overlap with each other so you will need to trace the pattern on paper. This means that you will be able to make multiple sizes of the garment and adjust the pattern as you trace it if necessary. For this you could use tracing paper, baking parchment, thin wrapping paper; or we can supply you with some spot and cross pattern paper.

Suggested Fabrics: Medium-weight woven fabrics such as denim, cotton canvas, gabardine, corduroy, cotton twill, etc. For the pocket lining use cotton poplin or batiste.

Version C: soft sheer fabrics such as tulle or chiffon

If the main fabric is thick, use a lighter fabric for the back bib lining, the front and back waistband facings, and to line the straps.

You will also need:

• 1 kit containing a pair of 1 3/8’’ (35 mm) overall buckles and 2 matching jeans buttons
• 2 slider adjustment buckles, 1 3/8’’ (35 mm) wide, matching the overall buckles
• 6 jeans buttons, 5/8’’ (17 mm) in diamete
• Thin cardboard for pressing and topstitching templates
• Optional: topstitching thread
• Optional: interfacing, up to 28’’ x 35’’ (70 cm x 90 cm) (only if the fabric does not have good structure)
